Geelong Harness Racing Club Logo

A leader on the provincial harness racing circuit the Geelong Harness Racing Club is steeped in tradition, with meetings in the district traced back to 1841. One of the first harness racing clubs established in Victoria, the Club has had many homes within the Geelong region and during this period survived the depression and both world wars.

In 1978, the Club moved to its current home at Beckley Park, Corio. In recent times the Club has updated its facilities including a $1.3 million track upgrade in 2001 and a $1.1 million grandstand redevelopment in 2003 to incorporate the modern Trackview Bar and Bistro facilities.

The Club holds an average of 40 race meetings per year and has a reputation as one of the fastest and fairest tracks in Victoria. This is reflected by the quality of horses, travelling from all over Australia and New Zealand to race at Beckley Park.

The Clubs annual flagship event is the running of the APCO Easy Shops Geelong Pacing Cup. A race that itself holds a long and proud tradition. First won in 1963 by Faye Maree, the race has since been won by some top class pacers. Early on winners included Waitaki Hanover, Maestro’s Melody and Future Intangible. The mighty Gammalite was successful in 1981 and in the late 80’s Jim O’Sullivan guided Quite Famous to victory on two occasions. In recent times top performers such as Wally Walton, Country Ways, Sokyola, The Warp Drive, Bobs Blue Boy and Safari have taken Geelong’s biggest prize.
